Ocho Rios – Jamaica

ocho rios

My latest love affair is with Ocho Rios.  This is the next place I want to visit.  Besides beautiful beaches and perfect weather, there are endless things to do.  There are plenty of shops, tours, cultural and annual events, in addition to swimming with dolphins, horseback riding in the ocean, and climbing the Dunn’s River Falls.

Beachside resorts offer all types of amenities, from golfing to taking a spa day.  These resorts are the perfect location for a honeymoon, destination wedding, family reunion, convention, or just a place to escape from reality for a little while.

Love those movie scenes where they are riding horses on the beach?  Now you can too and ride right into the ocean!  If you want more water activities, try swimming with the dolphins or Kayaking in a glass bottom kayak.  You’ll want to be sure to climb the Dunn’s River Falls while you’re there.  The Falls are considered one of Jamaica’s “Natural Wonders” and are a sight to see, even if you don’t decide to climb.

Something else that shouldn’t be missed are the Green Grotto Caves, names for the green algae that grows on the walls.  The innermost cavern contains a crystal clear underground lake.  These caves are believed to have been shelter for early Jamaican’s and hid runaway slaves in the 18th Century.

There are plenty of locations to try Jerk chicken or pork, or beef patties.  You will also find incredible seafood, steak, and fusion dishes.  Check out Trip Advisors 10 Best Ocho Rios Restaurants.

Year-round summer clothes with a few sweaters is all you need to be comfortable, but you should be aware that the wet season is May – November and the dry season is December – April in order to plan the best time to visit for your personal preferences.

You can see that no matter what your vacation goals are, Ocho Rios offers something for everyone and you’ll never run out of things to do.

By the way, did you know that Ocho Rios was used in filming the first James Bond film, “Dr. No”, released in 1962?  You may want to re-watch the film before you visit and then you can enjoy spotting filming locations during your trip.
